Kids & Teens

kids glasses essexBentley Opticians offers child-friendly eye examinations that will tell us everything we need to know about your child's eye health. Children don't have to be able to read to have an eye test. You can trust us to perform the same careful eye examination on your own child that we do for our own children. We'll ask you about family history and check your child's sight against expected levels of development for their age. We will also assess their vision and see if it needs correcting, following this we'll discuss the results clearly with you.

Dyslexic Visual assessment

It's estimated up to 1 in every 10 people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that can present challenges on a daily basis, but support is available to improve reading and writing skills and help those with the problem to be successful at school and work

dyslexia test essexReading discomfort often referred to as ‘dyslexia’ affects people who are unable to “grasp the meaning of written or printed words and sentences” or “to read more than a few lines with understanding.” It is believed that Dyslexia could be a visual disorder as well as a neurological disorder. Problems can show themselves in reading, writing, number work, short-term memory, hand control and visual processing. Timekeeping, sense of direction and interpersonal skills can also be affected.

At Bentley Opticians, we are able to help children and adults with their visual processing using various tinted lenses. ChromaGen is a unique system of coloured lenses for dyslexia. It provides a quick and reliable screening test for visual dyslexia. When the patient selects the right color combination during the assessment an immediate improvement can be experienced including clearer text, ease of reading and word and number recognition. As a result, text typically becomes clearer and stays still on the page. Please contact us directly for further information on this service.
